VLOG: Ukulele Extravaganza Oct 2015

Ugh. Currently, right now, I am ill. Got a major cold thing, all bunged up, coughing, did have a sore throat, not anymore, just breathing is harder than it should be. Getting better. I am better. Positivity, right?

Anyway, struggled to figure out what I’d create for this weeks video. Knew I had a back catalog of footage for vlogs to go through and edit, but wasn’t up to doing a piece to camera or voice over. Despite that, I’d had enough of not being productive or feeling able to do anything because of this ruddy cold, so started editing the mini uke tour I did with Feckless & Fuddle, and Mike Hind last October. We’re going on tour again soon, good plan to get this vlog live before we do it all over again. (Check my gigs page here to see if we’re playing near you)

Anyway, I did it and it works without voice overs, I think…just a little different. All this was filmed in October so I’ve learned a bit more about, ha, everything since then. The next vlog will be better. But for now, I hope you enjoy our mini adventures, maybe even see you on our next tour? 😉

Opposite – Biffy Clyro Cover

Aloha! NEW COVER. Little Biffy Clyro cover of their song Opposite, which I sing live a lot (like here at Eden Festival).

One of my favourite songs to perform at the moment, always seems to make mum cry which is incredibly sweet, but I didn’t tell you that 😉 All you Team Bestelians A FREE DOWNLOAD of this will be in your inbox NOW, and if you want a free mp3 download of this track come join Team Bestel; it’s easy plus you’ll get all my latest news before anyone else, click here!

Don’t worry about me doing a bunch of covers, new songs that I have penned are on their way soon (saving up and stuff), covers are just fun to do and humans like them. A couple of new songs are part of my set for 2016, so if you’re at any of my gigs this year (including any of the uke extravaganza tour dates in Feb), you’ll hear dem FIRST BEFORE ANYONE ELSE, ohmygosh.

Oh and just to remind you that I’ll be uploading at least one new video a week to YouTube so make sure you’re subscribed to my channel! Anything from covers to rambles to gear reviews to vlogs, it’ll be good, I’m very much enjoying it (any suggestions you want to see me chat/do/sing in my vids, comment below). Check out my last vid, a little tour of the spare room studio, here.

Enjoy the Biff!

Foodies Festival & Edinburgh Fringe Fings

Ah Edinburgh. I like Edinburger. We were up there for the Foodies Festival on Friday and I decided that it was the perfect time to start vlogging. Plus the Edinburgh Fringe has just started so there were so many things to film!

Really proud of my little vlog! It’s something I wanted to create for a very long time but, I’m such a perfectionist, I’ve dreaded getting round to doing it. Tried to get all my weirdness in, though I still think I’m a little more bizarre in the real world. I’m absolutely chuffed that something of reasonable quality fell out of my brain (granted, it took a day of editing to make me look slightly more sane – hopefully will get faster at that), hopefully I haven’t scared anyone away…

Do you like my first vlog attempt? Would you like to see more? Tell me! What shall I ramble about next?

Winter Song New Official Video!

New officiallyness music video for the new album single, Winter Song is FINITO and ready for your eyes! *cheers*

All filmed, edited and near tears shed over by yours truly (and a bit of father) locally (Wigtownshire) in the month of December 2014. I tell you, the weather in the last week has ranged from mild and sunny, to wet, cold and windy, to a sudden 20 second tantrum of snow, and no frost for ages. Which was insanely annoying as I was worried that the video wouldn’t look wintery enough and it wasn’t until yesterday morning that it got a bit frosty, but yesterday was the day I’d planned to publish the video. *hysterical laughing* Please remind future Zoë to have realistic deadlines and prepare months before.  Well, do tell me what you think. I hope you like it and it evoked that wintery feeling.

I didn’t want to create a complicated video. No inner storyline, nothing overly clever, and definitely not something with me prancing around in the snow looking seductive and pouty. For one, that is not me and the most pouty I can be without cringing is what I did in Nobody Knows. And no it’s not only because the whole process would be faster and easier to video and edit as you’ve potentially gotten rid of a full on storyboard, saving time. I wanted the song to speak for itself, not having an alternative meaning in the video potentially distracting from the moral in the song. Winter will end so enjoy it, and Winter will end so don’t feel dark. I was trying to capture all aspects of Winter and how it makes us feel and, in the process, film what winter is like here, where I live which can be rather bleak and very cold and sun on a sprinkling of snow.

Oh and I guess I didn’t want it too complicated so that I could do it myself. But it’s totally all about the meaning… 😉

A behind the scenes on our not so adventures during the filming and the general ideas/inspiration for the video will come soon, featuring geese.

Cheers very tah muchly to the Father for filming me and laboriously slaving away with me, deciding which clips to use and fixing any technical issues that nearly involved tears (mine). Mother for getting all excited and spurring me on with tea. And Mr Shaun from famously known ‘The Bookshop’ for the lend of his nice camera.

I do hope you like it and if you feel you want to I would definitely appreciate the sharing to anyone else you think would like it too. Should also say, Winter Song is available on iTunes along with my whole debut album which, if you like, you can get here. There are also very, very few copies left of the physical album but you can still get them here, and as it’s nearly Christmas I will sign each one I send out in the month of December.

Think it’s time for a brew…

Dolly Parton’s Jolene & BBC Radio Scotland

Ta da, here you go, my latest cover of a brilliant song. It’s amazingly written and something I love to perform in my live sets.

With regards to the fancy stuff on my vocals in the vid, absolutely no additional effects were added to the track in the studio. Everything was done in one take using my TC Helicon VoiceTone Harmony G-XT pedal and MP-75 Microphone with D.I. through my beautiful Fishman Loudbox Artist amp. Do love my tech. My babies.

I was also incredibly lucky enough to be invited to play my Jolene cover LIVE on BBC Radio Scotland on The Culture Show with Janice Forsyth.

Was in the studio with Vic Galloway too who was chatting about cover songs

Available only for a week and in the UK, but LISTEN AGAIN on iPlayer by clicking here.
